Swan Must Rule Out Kaiser Interference in Tasmanian Election

Wed, 17 Feb 2010

Following revelations last week of the appointment of Mike Kaiser to a highly paid position with the National Broadband Network (NBN), Mr Swan must today rule out any role for the former Labor strategist in the Tasmanian election.

Mr Swan was a key factional ally to Mr Kaiser during their time together in Queensland, where Mr Kaiser was forced to leave parliament after branch stacking.

Mr Kaiser was appointed by Labor to a $450,000 job with the NBN that wasn't advertised and didn't have a position description. Despite the NBN being a government entity, Mr Kaiser is in charge of government relations for the NBN, which has raised significant and serious questions about him using his role to help the ALP.

Mr Swan must use his trip to Tasmania to rule out any role for his factional mate in the Tasmanian campaign.

He must also rule out Mr Kaiser using the NBN to spruik David Bartlett or the ALP in Tasmania and guarantee no involvement with senior ALP figures.

Tasmanians are sick of Labor cutting corners and eroding proper process to achieve political ends and Mr Swan can quickly and easily remove any suggestion of Federal Labor doing so in Tasmania.
